About the Story
The Family We Promise
Marcus knows how to command a crowd. At forty-four, the silver-haired politician has spent decades perfecting the speeches, gestures, and reassuring smile that make people believe in him. Now, with his wife Elizabeth and their children beside him, he announces his candidacy for President of the United States.
His campaign rests on one powerful promise: family.
Yet away from the cameras, the picture is already coming apart. Marcus and Elizabeth move through public appearances with practiced precision while distance quietly grows between them. Their children see more than their parents realize, and one son watches the campaign unfold from a military outpost thousands of miles away.
Then Ben enters Marcus’s life carrying a worn photograph from the politician’s past. He asks one unsettling question about responsibility, and leaves Marcus facing a truth he can no longer unknow.
